While Labor Day Weekend doesn’t mark the official end of summer, it essentially brings it to an unofficial close with school starting and pools closing. Since its hit September, we start seeing school buses on the roads in the morning and evenings and the weather is no longer blistering hot. Surely these are tell-tale signs we are entering into fall in the northeast, but our minds may still be in summer mode. For those of us still dreaming of our toes in the sand, we hope these tips will help ease your seasonal transition.

  1. Plan healthy lunches: It can be easy to forget to eat when you are busy working or running errands throughout the day. Keeping a regular meal schedule is important to balance blood sugar because no one likes being hangry. Avoid missing this meal by preparing your lunch in the morning or the evening before. Leftovers are also an easy way to keep this meal on your schedule.

  2. Schedule time for movement/self-care: If you don’t schedule it, it gets pushed to the back burner when other things come up throughout the day that may be “more important”. This is a reminder that taking care of yourself is important too. Your scheduled time can be exercise, stretching, or just simply relaxing. Make self-care a priority on your schedule.

  3. Set your alarm for a consistent time in the morning: Keeping a regular sleep schedule is just as important as eating regular meals. Ensuring you get the proper amount of sleep will not only allow you to perform better during the day but also give your body a chance to restore. Keeping a regular sleep schedule will give your body the chance to move through all the stages of sleep which each have their own benefit. We also recommend doing the opposite: keep a consistent bedtime. If you’re interested in learning more about sleep check out the Huberman Lab episode on the science of sleep.

  4. Make time for fun: Life is full of transitions and change so we must press on through them. The best way to do that is to sprinkle chances for fun throughout your week. Have it be anything you desire because many of us spend our days and weeks going about our duties without giving ourselves a chance to laugh and be playful. This is important for us even as adults.
